Welcome to Dr Nam’s Complete Care Clinic (NewMalden Branch) and Woodbridge Hill Chiropractic Clinic (Guildford Branch) Website
History of Chiropractic
- Chiropractic was founded in 1895 and a profession separate and distinct from Medicine
- The Chiropractors Act was passed in 1994 allowing for the
registration & regulation of chiropractors in the UK.
Chiropractic Education - Your Chiropractor
- Spent 6 years studying to become Doctors of Chiropractic.
- Are registered by the government regulatory body the General Chiropractic Council.
- Undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars & courses
to update and improve their skills and knowledge.
The Aim of Chiropractic Treatment
- As chiropractic treatments are primarily applied to the spinal region, many individuals
incorrectly assume that chiropractors treat only back and neck ailments.
- While chiropractic is very effective in managing back and neck pain, it's not the only goal.
- The aim is to restore and optimise human body functions, rather than just suppressing symptoms
Health
- Not merely the absence of disease but an optimal state of mental, physical & emotional
wellbeing.
- All systems, organs, tissues of the body functioning 100% all of the time, not merely
the absence of disease or infirmity.
- Chiropractic is about achieving your Optimal Level of Health Chiropractic Care as stimulating & restoring the body's own healing power.
Your Spine
- Is made up of 24 movable vertebrae (+ Sacarum and Coccyx)
- Is divided into 3 areas with unique characteristics:
- Cervical = neck (7)
- Thoracic = mid back (12)
- Lumbar = low back (5)
- Very sensitive SPINAL NERVES emerge from above and below each vertebra.
The Nervous System
- Is the master controller of all living cells, tissues and organs;
- Initiates, controls and coordinates all cellular functions.
- Nerves are you body's communication system
- A network of highly complex and specialised structures, allowing for transfer of
information from the brain to the body (instructions) and then back again (feedback).
For your body to function optimally and adapt to the changing needs of its
internal & external environment it needs 100% nerve supply!
Interference to Nerves
- Nerves can be pinched or trapped by mechanical pressures, like from a "slipped disc".
- Nerves are also susceptible to chemical irritation from local inflammation or
collection of fluid.
- Nerve "short circuits" can also be caused by joints that are stuck or aren't working
properly (subluxation).
Effects of Nerve Interference
- Think of your mobile phone:
- When the signal starts breaking up you can loose the gist of the message, even
missing 1 or 2 words can mean you can't understand the message.
- Likewise when messages get sent along nerves and there is inference the message gets
distorted and communication breaks down.
- This means that the organ might not get the right message and feedback to the brain
is also lost.
- The body's innate recuperative powers are integrated through the nervous system, so it's
easy to see how a local interference, like spinal pain, can have far reaching effects
to your health.
How Does Chiropractic Work?
- Chiropractors use specialised techniques called Adjustments not only to correct the local
mechanical problem.
- But also help remove inference to the nerves.
- Thus decreasing local pain, improving specific and general biomechanics and allowing
the body to function at its best.
Who Can Benefit From Chiropractic Care?
- Everyone!
- We all accumulate stresses over our lives that affect our spines, e.g.:
- Old injuries from car accidents or collisions in sport
- Poor posture and work stress
- Birth trauma, accidents, bumps and falls as kids
- We provide care for infants, pregnant women, athletes and the elderly.
